How To Start And Make Huge Profit From Snail Farming In Nigeria – Why They Are Always Active In The Night
Snail farming is one of the most lucrative agro-businesses anybody can engage in to make a good profit in Nigeria today. The reason is that it is really very easy to start a snail business and make good money from it. If you can bring out your time and do the work well, the sky is your limit.
Some people do complain that they don’t have money to build the pen (that is the house that snails live in), and I can tell you that for more than six (6) months I used discarded motor tires I got from a tire repairer near my house to start my snail farming business.
I started the business as a pilot scheme; therefore I decided that I was not going to spend much money until I see how the business is going. I did not want to spend too much money building pens, so I decided to make use of discarded motor tyres. Really it was my mentor that advised me to try that.
At the initial stage I started with two (2) of the medium sized tyres and put them at a cool area at the back yard. I started with few snails I bought from the women bringing the snails from the bush market; the reason was that I didn’t want to spend much money. I was feeding the snails with wastes from the vegetable market. This was in abundance in the market.
I was really surprised at the rate they were eating those vegetables, they will descend on the vegetables in the night, and before morning everywhere will become empty. The major vegetables I was giving them were water melon, cucumbers and other lesser known vegetables.
Their growth within a short period was impressive and the most surprising aspect of the venture was the quantity of eggs laid by the snails. They were too many and I was forced to increase their living space in order to accommodate the too many younger ones.
From my experience, if someone can face the business by creating time and facing it squarely as the major business you are doing, you can make real success as the buyers are all over the place. Snails are so scarce that it is difficult to satisfy even the nearby restaurants.
As I said earlier, snail farming business is one of the most lucrative ventures in Nigeria today.
To be able to make the most out of this article, I am going to make it in form of training; we are going to take the issues one after the other and even to the exportation of snail level.
First off, what are snails like?
You need to understand the nature of snails before we continue; understanding them gives you the clue on how to deal with them when you start rearing them.
Snails are defenseless and that is why they operate mostly in the night, snails don’t fight to protect themselves, rather they go into their shells
They are omnivorous, this means that they feed on both plants and animals
Snails love it when it rains, that is why in the villages people go out looking for snails when it rains as they like to move at that time. The reason is that they love cool and humid temperature
If the weather becomes hot, they stay in their shells until the condition gets cooler or humid
Snails eat and move around during the night, and this may account for why they eat once a day.
Whenever you see snails with the “sealing mat” on the face, you should know that something is wrong with it; this can be just an irritation, harsh weather, pest irritation or simply dryness.
We will continue with this training in the next article. Follow us and be prepared to learn about this lucrative business.
When you are ready to start the business, do not start without a mentor, a mentor will take you the hands and show you all the things you need to know in the business.
