A grass-cutter family, with one male and four females can produce about 80 grass-cutters in one year. One grass-cutter can give birth to 10 at once, and it reproduces twice a year.
The atachina maginata, which is the specie of snail in Nigeria, can lay over 500 eggs a year, baring mortality and any other negative factor, a farmer can realise at least 350 snails, provided he follows the right procedures. Snails and grass-cutters will prompt a farmer to expand because of their rate of procreation.
Again,grass-cutter and snail feeds are very cheap and can even be got for free.
Managing the animals is also time saving, since they prefer to eat at night; grass-cutters feed mainly on elephant grass, while snails eat green leaves, unripe fruits and dry egg-shells for calcium all year round and these foods are easy to come by.
