Did you ever imagine that you can actually earn a living rearing one of the gentlest animals on earth? Yes it is possible. A lot of people today are actually earning a living by investing in the business of snail farming. Snail farming is a very easy and cheap way to become your own boss in this era of increase in the level of unemployment in the society today. A potential snail farmer can go into the business full-time or part-time and still make enough money to earn a living from it.
The snail farming business does not require a lot of money to begin. All that is required is land or space as large as a room. The potential farmer can get the snails from the market at very cheap prices. Snail farming takes place in a pen or in an open area (free range system). Unlike in other forms of farming, the entrepreneur does not need to buy food for the snails. This is because these snails feed on shelter plants and vegetables that are already inside their pen, and since snails are hermaphrodites, they all lay eggs all year long.
A snail farmer can begin to rake in profits within six months. With each snail producing about 100 eggs a year (under suitable conditions), the farm will become filled with snails in no time.
It must be pointed that that like all business ventures, there are some challenges in entering into this business. Training is therefore needed as regards the right specie of snail to start with, as well as the dos and the don’ts in running a snail farm.
Finding a market for your snails is never a problem as snails are in great demand and a great delicacy all around the world. They are a good source of protein and do not require much effort in finding a market for them.
Remember, every Naira begins with a Kobo.
