Field survey was carried out to determine the awareness, acceptability, and consumption of snail and its meat in different local government areas considering the senatorial zones (Edo North, Edo Central and Edo South) in Edo State. 1800 questionnaires were distributed to some households within the local government areas in the state. The results showed that 91.3%, 90% and 96.7 of the residents of Oredo, Esan West, and Etsako West local government areas respectively are aware of the existence of snail. 25.3% of the residents of Oredo, 36.7% of Esan West and Etsako West local government areas respectively eat snail in boiled/fried and fried forms. Furthermore, about 10%, 3.3% and 0% of the residence of Oredo, Esan West, Etsako West local government areas of Edo state respectively prefer to eat snail in smoke-dried or roasted form. 21.3%, 30% and 40% of the residents of Oredo, Esan West and Etsako West local government areas respectively like snail slightly, as liked and extremely. 27.6%, 30% and 33.3% of the residents of Oredo, Esan West and Etsako West frequency of intake of snail meat is twice for the three local government areas. The major constrain to snail meat consumption are price and availability. Availability and price of snail and snail meat are relative constraints to snail meat consumption. Deforestation and bush burning should be discouraged to minimize the extinction of snail from the wild. Snail rearing (Heliciculture) should be encouraged to promote its availability.
